Read Your Documents in Your Own Voice: ElevenLabs Voice Cloning Is Now Live

Audiobook creators, podcast hosts, and course creators: provide a 30-second recording, and ElevenLabs clones your voice. This guide covers the four-step setup, recording tips, and credit details.

DocsToAudio now supports ElevenLabs voice cloning. Record a short audio sample or upload an existing recording, and the system generates an AI-cloned version of your voice. Any document you upload afterward can be narrated in that voice — making audiobooks, podcasts, and course recordings sound like you actually recorded them.

Why Audiobook Creators, Podcast Hosts, and Course Creators Need Voice Cloning

The problem with standard AI voices isn't quality — it's that they don't sound like you. No matter which preset voice you pick, listeners know it wasn't recorded by a real person.

Voice cloning changes that. Once your clone is ready, the AI narration carries your voice's natural timbre, resonance, and speaking rhythm. It won't be a word-for-word replica, but the overall listening experience will have your personal signature.

This is most directly valuable for:

Four Steps to Clone Your Voice

Step 1: Open the Voice Cloning Page

Log in to DocsToAudio and go to Account → Clone Voice. Each account supports up to 2 cloned voice slots, and each slot costs 5,000 credits (deducted once at creation).

Step 2: Read and Accept the Terms

Using the cloning feature requires you to confirm that you own the rights to the audio you're uploading and that you won't use the clone for impersonation, fraud, or any other unlawful purpose. Confirm to proceed.

Step 3: Provide a Voice Sample

There are two options:

Option A: Record directly in your browser (recommended)

Read the reference text provided on the page, or speak any content of your choice. Record for 10–30 seconds, then stop.

Option B: Upload an existing audio file

Supports MP3 files up to 10 MB.

Step 4: Wait for Processing, Then Preview

After submitting, the system processes your sample automatically. Once complete, you can generate a short preview clip (using a small number of credits) to confirm the clone sounds right. When you're satisfied, go to the tuning step during document conversion, select the ElevenLabs model, and your cloned voice will appear as an available option.

Recording Quality Determines Clone Quality

About 80% of the clone's quality comes down to the audio you provide. A few key points:

Quiet environment: Air conditioning hum, street noise, and wind all get baked into the cloned voice and are hard to remove later. Record in the quietest room you can find.

Microphone position and quality: Keep 15–20 cm between your mouth and the microphone, and avoid breathing directly into it. An external mic or wired headset mic will generally outperform a built-in laptop mic.

Use the same device throughout: Don't switch recording devices or microphones mid-session. The cloning model needs consistent samples from the same acoustic environment.

Speak naturally at your normal pace: Read at the speed you'd naturally use in conversation — don't slow down or speed up deliberately. The model learns your everyday speaking rhythm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I'm not happy with the clone?

Delete the current cloned voice and create a new one — but this requires another 5,000 credits. Before committing, record a test clip in a quiet environment to verify audio quality before submitting.

Can I rebuild a cloned voice after deleting it?

Yes, but the slot cost is non-refundable. Rebuilding deducts another 5,000 credits.

Which languages does the cloned voice support?

Cloned voices use the same ElevenLabs model infrastructure and support all languages covered by that model, including English, French, German, Spanish, and other major languages.
