Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

1. Who We Are

DocsToAudio operates the website docstoaudio.online. When this policy refers to "we", "us", or "our", it means DocsToAudio.

For any privacy-related questions or requests, contact us at: support@docstoaudio.online

2. What Information We Collect

2.1 Usage and Analytics Data

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Analytics cookies and data collection are activated only after you have given your consent via the cookie banner. If you decline cookies, Google Analytics is not loaded. Google Analytics may process technical information such as device type, browser, approximate location, pages visited, and interaction events. We do not intentionally send document content, file names, email addresses, or other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.

2.2 Text Content for Audio Conversion

Your original document file is parsed in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers. However, the selected text required to generate audio is sent to our server and then transmitted to the relevant speech synthesis provider:

  • Standard (free) tier — Text is transmitted to Microsoft's Edge TTS service. No account is required. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
  • Premium (paid) tier — ElevenLabs — Text is transmitted to ElevenLabs, Inc. for AI voice synthesis. Requires a signed-in account. As the operator of the ElevenLabs API account that powers this service, we have access to conversion request history through ElevenLabs' dashboard, which may include previews of submitted text. See ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy.
  • Premium (paid) tier — Google Gemini — Text is transmitted to Google LLC via the Gemini API for AI voice synthesis. Requires a signed-in account. See Google's Privacy Policy.

DocsToAudio does not use your submitted text to train its own AI models. Third-party providers may process content under their own terms, privacy policies, and the data-use settings applicable to our provider account. Your original document files are not stored on our servers. Generated audio files from Standard tier conversions are not stored on our servers. For Premium background conversions, generated audio is stored on our servers for up to 7 days to allow re-download, and is then automatically and permanently deleted.

2.3 Voice Cloning Data

If you use voice cloning, we collect and process:

  • Voice sample — an audio recording you make or upload for the purpose of creating a cloned voice.
  • Voice model data — the cloned voice created from the sample and the provider voice identifier used to make it available in your account.
  • Voice details and activity — the display name you choose, creation date, last-used date, status, and preview audio and text you generate.
  • Authorization record — the date and time you confirmed that you own the voice or have the voice owner's express authorization and agreed to the applicable terms.

The sample is uploaded to temporary storage operated for us by Cloudflare, retrieved by our server, and transmitted to the voice-cloning service provider you select to create, process, and, where applicable, host the cloned voice. We attempt to delete the temporary sample from our storage after a successful voice-creation request. If voice creation or deletion fails, the sample may remain in temporary storage until it is manually deleted or removed under an applicable storage lifecycle rule.

Voice recordings and voice models may be personal data and, depending on the jurisdiction and how they are used, may be treated as biometric or sensitive data. Do not submit a child's voice or any voice you are not expressly authorized to clone.

2.4 Conversion Usage Metrics

We collect limited, non-content usage metrics about conversions, such as input file format, approximate word and character counts, number of chapters, and conversion time. We use these to measure service performance, prevent abuse, and improve the product. These metrics do not include document content or file names.

For signed-in users, conversion metrics are associated with your account to support credit billing, usage history, and dispute resolution.

2.5 Account Information (signed-in users)

You may use DocsToAudio anonymously without creating an account. If you choose to sign in to access Premium features, we collect:

  • Email address — used for authentication (magic link or Google OAuth) and account management.
  • Session data — to keep you signed in across visits.
  • Credit balance and transaction history — to manage your purchased credits and provide billing records.

We do not collect your name, payment card details, or billing address. Payment processing is handled entirely by our payment provider (see Section 6).

2.6 Cookies

We use cookies set by Google Analytics (_ga, _gid, and related cookies) to distinguish users and sessions. These cookies are only set after you accept cookies via the consent banner. Signed-in users also receive a session cookie required for authentication. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies or via your browser settings.

2.7 Support Communications

If you contact us by email, we will retain that correspondence as long as necessary to respond to your request and maintain a record of the communication.

3. Sensitive Information

DocsToAudio is not designed for processing highly sensitive, confidential, regulated, or legally privileged information. Please do not upload or convert medical records, financial account information, passwords, government identifiers, trade secrets, confidential business documents, or private information about other people.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Analytics data — to understand usage patterns and improve the service, based on your consent.
  • Text content — to generate the requested audio output. DocsToAudio does not use it to train its own models or for advertising; third-party providers process it under their own policies and applicable account settings.
  • Voice samples and voice model data — to create, host, preview, use, manage, secure, and delete the cloned voice you request.
  • Voice authorization and activity records — to document authorization, enforce lifecycle rules, prevent misuse, respond to disputes, and comply with legal obligations.
  • Account email — to authenticate your identity and communicate account-related information (e.g. magic link sign-in emails).
  • Credit and transaction records — to manage credit balances, process purchases, and provide billing history.
  • Server logs — to maintain, secure, and operate the service, based on our legitimate interests.
  • Support emails — to respond to your request, as necessary to fulfil that communication.

5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA / UK Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under GDPR / UK GDPR:

  • Submitted text content — processed as necessary to provide the text-to-speech conversion service you requested (performance of a service).
  • Your voice sample and voice model data — processed to provide the voice-cloning service you requested and, where applicable law requires it for voice or biometric data, based on your explicit consent.
  • Another person's voice — you must have obtained that person's express, informed authorization before submission. You are responsible for providing any legally required notice and obtaining any legally required consent.
  • Authorization and activity records — processed based on our legitimate interests in documenting permission, preventing abuse, enforcing our terms, and establishing or defending legal claims.
  • Account email and session data — processed as necessary to provide the signed-in account features you requested (performance of a service).
  • Credit and transaction records — processed as necessary to fulfil your purchase and comply with financial record-keeping obligations (legal obligation / legitimate interests).
  • Analytics and cookies — processed based on your consent, given through the cookie banner.
  • Server logs and security data — processed based on our legitimate interests in maintaining, securing, and improving the service.
  • Support emails — processed as necessary to respond to your request.

6. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third parties as part of operating the service:

  • Microsoft Edge TTS — receives text submitted for Standard (free) tier conversions. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
  • ElevenLabs, Inc. — receives text submitted for Premium conversions using ElevenLabs voices. If you use voice cloning, ElevenLabs also receives your voice sample, creates and hosts the resulting voice model, and processes voice data for service delivery, safety, fraud prevention, and other purposes described in its terms and privacy policy. ElevenLabs may treat voice data as biometric data in some circumstances and may use content to improve its services subject to its terms and applicable account settings. As the API account operator, we can access provider-side voice records and conversion history, which may include submitted-text previews. See ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy, Terms, and Prohibited Use Policy.
  • Google LLC (Gemini API) — receives text submitted for Premium (paid) tier conversions using Google Gemini voices. Text is transmitted to Google via the Gemini API solely to generate audio. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Creem — processes credit purchase payments on our behalf. Payment information is submitted directly to Creem and is subject to Creem's own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive or store your payment card details. See Creem's Privacy Policy.
  • Google LLC (Analytics & OAuth) — provides Google Analytics after consent, processing limited technical and usage data; and Google OAuth sign-in (if you choose to sign in with Google). See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel Inc. — our hosting infrastructure provider. Vercel processes request logs as part of normal server operation. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
  • Neon, Inc. — our database infrastructure provider. Account, credit, and transaction data is stored in Neon's hosted PostgreSQL service. See Neon's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. — provides object storage used for temporary voice-sample uploads, generated voice previews, and other service files. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

We do not sell your data to any third party.

7. International Data Transfers

DocsToAudio uses service providers including Vercel, Google (Analytics, OAuth, and Gemini API), ElevenLabs, Creem, Neon, and Cloudflare. Your information may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

Where required by applicable law, we rely on appropriate safeguards provided by our service providers or other lawful transfer mechanisms to protect your data during international transfers.

8. Data Retention

Your original document files are not stored on our servers. We do not intentionally store submitted text on our servers after the conversion request is completed. We configure our systems not to log document content, but limited technical logs may be processed by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes.

Generated audio — Standard tier: Audio delivered directly to your browser is not stored on our servers.

Generated audio — Premium background conversions: Audio files produced through Premium background conversion jobs are stored on our servers for up to 7 days after generation to allow re-download. They are then automatically and permanently deleted.

Voice-cloning samples: Voice samples are placed in temporary object storage and sent to the voice-cloning service provider you select. We attempt to delete our temporary copy after a successful voice-creation request. If creation or deletion fails, the copy may remain until it is manually deleted or removed under an applicable storage lifecycle rule.

Cloned voices and previews: A cloned voice may remain hosted by the selected provider while its DocsToAudio voice slot is active. Preview audio is stored in our object storage while the slot is active. You may delete a cloned voice from your account at any time; we then request deletion from the applicable provider and delete associated previews. Provider-specific retention and automatic-deletion rules are described below or shown before creation. Provider, security, legal, backup, and authorization records may remain for longer where permitted or required by law or under the provider's own retention rules.

8.1 ElevenLabs Voice Cloning

For voices created with ElevenLabs, we request deletion from ElevenLabs when you delete the voice. We also automatically delete the voice after a warning and 7-day grace period if it has not been used for more than 30 days or the account has no valid credits, unless the triggering condition is resolved during the grace period.

Voice-cloning records: We retain the voice display name, provider identifier, authorization timestamp, usage and lifecycle timestamps, credits charged, and deletion status for account administration, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. A deletion request may not require us to erase records that we must or are permitted to retain for these purposes.

Anonymous users — no persistent personal data is stored by us beyond anonymised analytics (subject to Google Analytics retention settings) and temporary server logs (subject to Vercel's retention policy).

Signed-in users — account data (email, credit balance), conversion event records, and credit transaction history are retained for as long as your account remains active, or until you request deletion. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at support@docstoaudio.online.

Support emails may be retained as long as necessary to respond to your request and maintain records of the communication.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain privacy rights regarding your personal information, including:

  • Right of access — request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data.
  • Right to object — object to processing of your personal data for analytics purposes.
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw cookie consent at any time.
  • Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@docstoaudio.online. We will respond within 30 days. For anonymous users who have not created an account, most requests can be satisfied by clearing your browser cookies and cache. For signed-in users, we can delete your account and associated data upon verified request.

10. Analytics and Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with the website and to improve the service. Analytics are only activated after you have given consent via the cookie consent banner displayed on your first visit. If you reject non-essential cookies, Google Analytics is not loaded and no analytics cookies are written to your browser.

Google Analytics may process limited technical and usage information such as device type, browser, approximate location, pages visited, and interaction events. Where available, we configure analytics to minimise personal data collection.

You can reject or manage non-essential cookies at any time through your browser settings or by clearing your cookies.

11. Children's Privacy

DocsToAudio is not intended for children under 16. To use voice cloning, you must meet the minimum-age and voice-subject eligibility requirements of the provider you select. ElevenLabs currently requires users to be at least 18 years old (or the age of legal majority where they live) and prohibits submission or use of voice data belonging to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child's information or voice has been provided through the service, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Singapore. Any disputes arising under this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore. This does not limit any mandatory privacy rights you may have under the laws of your country or region.
